job hopper
I'm a senior level manager just fired for a job as a result of a merger after being in this position only two years. I left a job after just a year to take this job which was a significant promotion. Prior to that I worked for 3 years in the same company. I've also had to move around the country quite a bit due to my ex-husbands job. Now the headhunter I'm working is saying the feedback is I'm a "job hopper". How can I present my resume in the best light without lying?
There' s really not much you can do to hide the dates so job-hopping isn' t an issue -- your work history is your work history. You can do a few things that might help: - Next to your last position, write "downsized" (or something similar) to show that you left the position through no fault of your own. I don' t usually recommend including reasons for leaving jobs on resumes, but in your case it might be helpful. - Don' t surround your dates with a lot of white space - that will call attention to them. Keep the dates close to other text, like by writing the dates next to job titles. - Include a brief explanation of your recent work chronology in your cover letter. Recruiters are probably seeing you as a "flight risk," so your job is to dispel these fears so that you have the best chance of job interviews. | |
