Career Tips

please help me with my resume

Hello, I've been applying for lab technician jobs and haven't received any responses yet. I recently graduated from university and am trying to obtain an entry level job in the science field. Do you have any tips for me? Thanks!

Hi yanisrei,

I'm sorry tohear that you haven't been receiving calls for interviews – it's often hard forentry-level workers to break into new career fields after graduating. You needto make sure that your resume presents a strong "value proposition"that clearly shows that you would be an asset to a science lab. A good startingpoint is to  figure out what employersfind most desirable when hiring lab techs. You can search for labtechnician jobs on Monsterand review a number of job postings to see qualifications and skills that arefrequently requested, and incorporate your matching ones into your resume.

If you plan onspecializing within a certain type of lab, make sure that is clear from thebeginning of your resume – your resume will be more successful if it istargeted.

If you have noor minimal lab experience, play up your science courses, knowledge foundation, internships (if any), key skills (e.g., research, analytical), and especiallyyour passion for launching your career in this field.

Good luck,
