Resume formattingMy resume makes heavy use of bullet points with hanging indents. On Monster.com, I was able to upload the resume in Word format, and it came through looking just the way it does on paper--no problem. However, on a couple of other job-search sites, this resume hasn't worked out so well. I've saved an alternate version as straight ASCII text, monospaced font, line breaks, space bars as appropriate in lieu of the hanging indents. And it didn't come out looking very good online even so. Finally, just to get my resume posted on these sites, I did a simplified version with asterisks instead of the bullets, and no hanging indents, like so: *I performed this job function, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah Is this good enough in this context? I should probably mention that I was a typesetter for 15 years (I'm in a different field now), so it's entirely possible that I'm sweating the formatting too much. Thanks for your insights.
Right, the design won't be as nice as your formatted version, but that's expected with plain text. Your approach is perfect - using asterisks for bullets. The only change I would consider is to add a space between bullet points if your sentences are long. Best wishes, Kim Isaacs The Resume Expert | |
