Help!

I am in great need of help in choosing the right resume format. I have a long and varied employment history. I started college in 1996 and graduated in 2002 with a degree in PR. I was never able to find a job where that degree served me. After a few unsatisfying years in the "real world" I returned to college and obtained my second BA in history. I plan on getting certified to teach. In the meantime, I want to pursue substitute teaching. I have no actual teaching experience, only academic high points and several years of retail experience to my credit. What would be the best resume format for me?

Any help or guidance would be very much appreciated

Sounds like you need a resume that' s very focused on your academic achievements and downplays work history. You can do a layout like this:

Qualifications Summary
Outline your credentials to teach, and also include your teaching philosophy. Remember that schools want to hire the bestteachers, and especially teachers with ideas that match those of the school ordistrict. So, do some research and find out what is most important to theschools that you are interested in. Also emphasize any subject-matter expertise that would be valuable in the classroom.

Key Skills
Even though you haven' t taught before, you probably have related/transferable skills (like delivering presentations, training others, developing training programs, etc.). Include a bulleted list of skills that schools would find valuable.

Education
Highlight academic achievements, extracurricular activities, honors, awards, etc.

Experience
You probably have transferable skills from your positions held, so highlight any skills and accomplishments that schools would find relevant.

You might have other headings, like Volunteer Work, Tech Skills, Foreign Languages, etc.
