How far back to list job historyI have 14 years of work experience, the 5 oldest between my BS and MBA. For the last 10 years, I have had 5 jobs - the first 3 only one year (or less) a piece, the next one 6 years, then a year sabbatical, and the last one only 4 months. I've been in telecom and high tech for most of this period, and I don't think the brevity in many of these positions is that unusual. My latest position was eliminated in a corporate re-org, and I'm leaving on good terms. I have left off 2 jobs that go back more than 10 years because they aren't relevant, are low level, and if included would add 2 jobs to the already high number of 5 jobs. My question: would it be wrong to also remove the 5th oldest job just because I was there less than a year, and even with it gone, I have 4 jobs, 3 of which are a year or less a piece? Bottom line: I want to minimize the job-hopping appearance, and if I remove the 5th oldest job, there will be only 9 years of experience. Please refrain from, "So stop job-hopping." :) Thanks in advance.
P.S. The most recent position for which I get severance another 5 weeks, I plan to list as PRESENT employment throughout those weeks since payroll continues (and it looks better to get a job when you have one).
85 people have read this so far yet no responses. To take off the 5th job (leaving 4) or not, that is the question. The only downside I see is that my MBA is received in 1996 and the gap will be such that the next job started in 1998. Thanks for any light.
