Whats the best resume format

Is it better to send a plain-text resume, or rather PDF or Word?

I'm partial to PDF format--I find it looks consistently good.  But several recruiters I've talked to only want Word format.  I guess this is to ease scanning?

You know, you can have a nice looking resume done in Word without a problem:
The fact that the recruites told you they prefer Word is because not all computers everywhere are equipped with codecs and programs to open your file. This is why it is better to have it in Word. Plus, a pdf. document is printed slower than a Words one, bgecause the printer has to process more things.

null_bock - The best way to email your resume (in the absence ofspecific instructions from the hiring manager) is to copy and paste your plain-textcover letter and resume in the email's message field, and attach your Wordresume.

Thanks Kim (and everyone else).  That's what I've been hearing from other sources, and have already started sending out apps that way.
