need advise 1yr gapI got the opportunity to take a year off to care for a terminally ill friend. My experience is in customer service and accounting. I volunteer as Treasurer for two non-profit organizations and continued to do so this during this period. I have included the volunteer positions on my resume. How do I explain the gap on my resume, or should I? Weeeelllll, no one is asking you to explain the fact that you were off for 1 year initially, but during the interview you might need to offer such an explanation in order for something else not to be understood. As far as your motivation, it is backed up without a problem. But basically, you should tell the truth. And yes, do mention all those volunteer activities. Don't off information unless necessary. Tell the truth, by saying you could afford to take care of a terminally ill friend. If you make it too much of a point the employer may think that you might leave them for anyone that is sick in you life. If the person paid you something even in the will, that could possibly be counted as income and you were a nurse or healthcare person to that person. Just a thought. | |
