Volunteering Experience
Background info: I graduated in 2005 – BBA in MKT. I was a work study student from 2000-2005 (couldn’t work off campus for a long time because I was an international student); intern/copy writer at a radio station 2003-2005; and now I work as a Marketing/Admin. Assistant and Med. Staff coordinator (2005-Present – will be 2 years in June). I was doing internship and work study at the same time.
I am very tempted to include some collegiate involvement in projects as well as some volunteer experience that aligns with job objective. If I do that my resume will be longer than 1 page, and I am not sure that is okay with someone who is not a seasoned executive?
Also, will it be weird to include all that info since I’ve been out of college for almost 2 years?
Thanks,
M.
You must be kidding :)) It won't sound weird at all. Any volunteer activity done during college or during whatever period in your life is considered part of your training in a specific field. When it comes to work experience, it is very important that one should list EVERYTHING he has done in any field whatsoever because you never know when the skills you have achieved at that moment might get useful for something. If it is of any help, Europeans consider volunteering to be very important in ones experience. I'm sure all the world does :D Good luck now! Section of post does not conform with Monster TOU Thanks!
So, it's no big deal if it's more than 1 page, and I am in the entry level stages of my career?
Trismegist, Most entry-level workers only need a one-page resume because work history is limited, but some require two pages to adequately showcase related school projects, volunteer work, extracurricular activities, and other credentials that would be valuable. It's better to go to two pages and effectively market yourself than to eliminate important information just to save space. Good luck in your job search! Kim Isaacs The Resume Expert | |
