new resume after 12 years

I have had the same job for 12 years and am trying to update my resume.  I currently work in retail and am trying to get out. How many years do I go back with my work history?  Should I put an objective? What formats seem to get results?  Thanks in advance for any help.

Ok...Lots of questions, simple answers :)
1. You should list any job whatsoever, you cvan go as back in time as you want. Usually, all jobs should be listed because they are part of your work history.
2. Yes, you should, in order to show you haven't lost motivation even if you worked 12 in the same field. Pretty boring :) So yes.
3. It depends on what job you are applying for. I allways use the European CV format (you can have a search done on the very same site I gave you the objective article about). It is a mixture of chronological and skills based resume which proves to be very effective in Europe and not only.
Good luck now!

Section of post does not conform with Monster TOU

I would check out Monster's resume tutorials which are free (including anatomy of a resume).

I would include an objective to make it clear that you're seeking another line of work. I would also go back as far as your experience relates to your new line of work, otherwise I'd go back 10 years.

Your Objectve should match the kind of job you want.  In other words, you need to figure out the kind of jobs you're looking for before you can look properly.
