Returning to An Old CareerIn 1994 I stopped working as a legal secretary/paralegal. I have since been a recreational therapist/workshop facilitator, but am finding that work a dead end as financial resources for the special populations I work with shrinking. I was an excellent legal secretary/paralegal, with 13 years experience behind me. However, there are now computer programs and internet libraries that were not in existence when I was in the field. The more I check the classifieds, the more I realize how much I have to sharpen up my skills. I did teach word processing to the other secretaries way back when it was new, as well as did purchasing for office equipment and negotiated the service contracts. I'm unsure how to present myself in my resume. How do I combine the two fields to appear a fine candidate when so many others searching will have more recent experience? Any help is greatly appreciated. I hope you realise you wont make it in the olf field if you don't upgrade your skills. And to work with computers nowadays...I find it hard to believe you're at the level of a thirs year old these days. My opinion is that you should have a computer course done. Nothing difficult and besides...you'll have a diploma in the end and the necessary skills to go back and compete with all these computer geeks. Section of post does not conform with Monster TOU | |
