Is it OK to have Resume Omissions1. Is it OK to leave your last job off your resume if youonly worked there for a year and it paid less than your previous job? 2. Does a background check reveal prior jobs and salaries?
1. It's okay to leave things off (I leave off some stuff), but why would you leave a one year gap on your resume? Employers will assume you were homeless or in jail for that time. Just claim it. 2. Depends on the kind of check. Just state the job, and explain if they make you an offer, what kind of salary you're looking for. I wouldn' t omit your last job, and yes, it can show up in a background check. Even though the position paid less than the previous one, that shouldn' t impact your future salary if you negotiate well. People leave things off their resumes all the time, especially if they won't get a good reference and/or it's not overly relevant to what you're currently seeking. But if it's just a question of your having been paid less, I wouldn't take it off. Salary is negotiable at most places, and your main thing with a resume is to land that crucial interview. Plus, if you do take it off, then the question will become why you have a gap in employment. So long as you have a good answer for this, it's ok to leave out, but personally, I would leave it on there. And yes, a standard background check will reveal your past jobs and salaries. | |
