MBA and BSBA from same schoolI am going to start casually taking MBA classes, and after a lot of research -- the college that best suits my work and life balance is the college I got my BSBA from. In the long run, will this look bad on my resume or will an MBA, overall, help enhance my strong industry experience side? To be technically correct you will need list both degrees on a resume. Why the problem? Say your going for the Masters, it should be understood you already received a Bachelors. The only thing is you don' t put a high school diploma down once you received a degree, even an Associates. What i meant to say was both degrees will be from the same college, does that look bad in employers' eyes? It shouldn' t be a problem at all as long as the program has recognized accreditation. Employers love to see people who are willing to improve themselves. Someone might ask why you chose to go to the same school, and you can honestly say you liked the program better than other offerings you looked at. You could also check out the April 9th 2007 edition of U.S. News & World Report. It has the annual graduate school rankings in it, and you can see how your school stacks up. Hope this helps! I don' t think it would look bad that both degrees are from the same school. You can list the school name once and both degrees below like this: I earned both my B.A. and M.B.A. from the same school and have never had anyone question it. The KEY thing is whether or not the school is legit, and I'm assuming you're going to one that is. So no, it won't be a factor at all! However, the proper way to list degrees on a resume is to list them separately, with the school name, degree, and year earned. So on my resume, I have the same school listed twice, one right after the next to show my having earned both a B.A. and an M.B.A. from them. When I attended college back in the 1980s, professors told us that receiving your Bachelors and Masters degree from different universities will look good on your resume. I love my university so much I earned both my Bachelors and Masters from the same university. In academia, it looks better if you went to different universities for your degrees mainly because they want to see that you experienced different attitudes and teaching methods. On the flip side, I have a lot of friends who graduated with me (undergraduate) who moved to other states and earned their Masters from other universities too. Same school, different school...doesn' t matter. Earning your bachelor' s degree is a fabulous thing. Earning your master' s degree is a fabulous thing. What matters is you earned the degrees. No one would ever question if your degrees are from the same school or not. I earned my bachelor' s and master' s degree from the same kick-a** school, an over 100-year-old college in the midwest with a stellar reputation. Pursuing your MBA "casually"? Why? Go for it. Set a course plan for yourself and commit yourself to getting this done. Well, by casually I just mean taking the class load that I can, while also balancing my job, family, etc. My goal is to earn in within 2 1/2 years. Thanks for your input, as well as the other replies as well. | |
