to put on resume or nothad a job where I left a telecom company after 2 years due to downsizing, then after 8 months of selling copiers went back to the telecom company, Should I list this 8 month job or not on my resume? My resume would read like this 2000-2002 Internet Co. 2002-2003 Copiers - can i get rid of this job to eliminate the appearance of job hopping? 2003-2003 Internet Co(same above) 2003-2007 XYZ Co In your case, I would suggest leaving the short-term position out. You could also list your Internet company duration as continuous to create a better impression and save space. If you have to fill out a formal application form, you may have to disclose the situation depending on how the form has to be filled out. Any further explanations can wait for the interview if the matter is ever brought up.
I would because it proves that this company likes you to have you coming back to work for them.
It's strictly a judgement call because you can go either way. If you decide to leave it on, then you've got a perfectly good reason for leaving and then coming back--the industry went through changes and you were downsized, and so you left the field feeling unsure as to when it may recover. Now that it's recovered, you want to move back into it. If you decide to take it out, no big deal since you won't have a huge gap in employment. So it's totally up to you, but in my opinion, I would suggest leaving it on there. If I were you, I would put everything you have done on your resume. This way you'll be accounted for when the company, that wants to hire you, does a background check. Besides, you'll get that interview only if your job qualification match the position the company is hiring for. If you do get that interview then you can explain the gap on your employment.
I agree that you should leave the position on your resume. Emphasize that you were recruited back to your previous company - it looks good that your performance was valued so highly that the company re-hired you. Best wishes, Kim Isaacs The Resume Expert | |
