Listing Special AwardsI recently received an invitation to Beta Gamma Sigma - The International Honor Society for Business students. My question is whether it would help me career wise to pay the lifetime membership fee (reasonably priced) and included this honor on my resume or just let my GPA (3.65) speak for itself. I've also received other invites to other honor societies and declined, partly due to the high costs. I would appreciate any input as to whether the recognition would help. Thanks!
Don't list the fee. The GPA is fine.
Any fee based "Honor Society" is a scam. Don't pay to be listed in something that means nothing to anyone else in the business world except others who have also paid the fee to be listed.
If you are worried you education areain your resume doesn't look so good without some "special award", don't. Just thinken it in other ways. Any period or training enters this category, as well as any special courses you have participated to. Section of post does not conform with Monster TOU
I think you should consider the membership. Beta Gamma Sigma is a recognized honor society and I believe they have other member perks like networking opportunities, job boards, shopping discounts, etc. I would look into it if the fee isn't too high. Oh, and congratulations - an invitation is a nice honor! Take care, Kim Isaacs The Resume Expert | |
