Entry Level Entertainmet Resume TipsCurrently, I am in the process of switching jobs from consulting to the music industry. I have very little experience in the entertainment field, but have tons of professional client and organization experience. I am also planning to attend MBA School for the music industry next fall, but wanted to get an internship/entry level position beforehand. Does anyone have any pointers on how to "beef up" my resume?
1. What kind of position in the industry? 2. Are your tons of professional client and organization experience in the entertainment industry? 3. In my brief experience, contacts in the industry far outweigh a good resume. I've seen someone with no experience organize a benefit performance - line up the venue, secure a sponsor, get performers, get local businesses to donate items for a silent auction, get flyers printed and distributed, and perform himself. When all was said and done, he had built a local name for himself and has numerous performers that owe him one for the exposure they got. An an amateur comedian myself, I've contacted local gigs that I found through networking and from craigslist, and have done over twenty performance in less than three months - that resulted in me getting a local name as well. Again, are you a performer, a talent agent, an event organizer, or something else? Thanks so much for responding. I'm looking to go into the corporate side of music - i.e. business development, strategic planning. My professional experience is mainly from the financial services industry, but I did major in communications at USC (which has a great network) and had a brief internship planning after parties and other events for hip-hop/R&B stars and sports superstars. While I wait to find out which MBA school I get accepted to, I wanted to do some informational interviews and send out my resume to obtain an entry level or internship position and start really making connections. I'm just not sure what to highlight in my resume, when I only have one entertainment related position. Does this make sense? I guess i wondering what career characteristics/goal/accomplishments translate well to the entertainment field. Any advice?
