When to send out resumeI have a dilemma.. I currently live and work in NYC. I will be leaving my current job at the end of August and will need to find a new one. I am on Office Manager. From June 1st until August 26th we work out of our Pennsylvania office. My question is... 1- Do I send out my resume now and try to go on some interviews now (in NYC) before working in PA for the summer? If so, do I note it on my cover letter or resume that I will not be available to start work until September? Or..... 2- I wait until the end of August to send out my resume and start looking for a new job once I return to the city?
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

If your job market is tight, I would start the job search TODAY! Back home in California I cannot tell you how many of my friends are getting depressed because they cannot find a job after 6-12 months. If you happen to get lucky, explain to the interviewer that you will not be available until August. If the offer is so great that you would be a fool to give up, leave your current employer by giving them a 2 week notice. Remember, you are about to be laid off so what harm will it do to leave early? You are looking out for your financial well being. Thanks for the advice. I've been leaning in that direction. Should I mention my availability or say nothing until the interview?
Vickie Once the offer is made bu your prospective employer, that means you nailed the job. At that point, I would notify your current employer and give your 2 week notice. It used to be that people were loyal to their employers and vice versa. Not any more. If your current company was concerned about you, do you think they would tell you that you are about to be laid off? A concerned employer would find another position in the company for you. | |
