Resume question New job,big mistake
Hello, I left my job in HR when I obtained another position that I thought was going to be good, however, I took this job on the condition I would be trained since I have never done this work before. They promised at least 2 weeks of training. They cut my training after 1-1/2 days, which probably included only approx. 2 hrs. of training at a specific task which I really needed to know for this job. Even the woman training me said that was not enough time. So I left after the second day in training. Now, do I need to put this on my resume? How else can I explain leaving my previous job where I had been for 3 years?
Forget the new job. Why did you leave the old job in the first place?
Mainly it was more money. There were other factors involved, but ultimately, it was the money. I really liked my first job, but felt I was doing way more work than I was being compensated for. And I have a relative that works at the other company in another state and he said it was a good company, so I went for it. However, I talked with another woman on the phone today about a part-time position in HR (which is all I am finding now) and she was quite rude on the phone wanting to know why I did not put this on my resume! I was only there for a couple of days, and it was only training, should I have to put this on my resume?
I would say you don't need to include this job on your resume. However, you can include a brief note about it in your cover letter -- that would explain why you left your 3-year job and why you're currently looking. Keep your explanation positive (it's okay - these things happen!). Best wishes, Kim Isaacs The Resume Expert
Thank you! I think I really needed to hear that. | |
