Locating Work ReferencesWell, I' ve been going around trying to update my WORK history for when I fill out job applications. I went to call one of my previous supervisors....and I found out she' s no longer with the company I used to work for. Well, the receptionist did say she was looking for the local schoolboard.....so I called the schoolboards HR Dept. to rely my message to her. Now that she' s working for a different company, would me still using her as a work reference be NULL because she' s no longer working at the place I used to work? Meaning , when I fill out the work history portion of my application, should I put the name of the schoolboard (the place where she NOW works, or still keep putting my previous employ?) I wonder if this partiular job will be a dead end. I ALSO, have a job work reference, of a company that I worked for a year with, that went out of business and was their buiildings were bulldozed. What then? Now I' m talking about WORK HISTORY here....the meat and potatos of the application. When listing a reference who no longer works at your former employer, give both his/her current title and company, then his/her title and the company name at which you both worked. This is a very common occurence. E.g., Jane Smith Board President, East Podunk School Board, East Podunk, NY (formerly Human Resources Manager, Company in Common, City/State) Contact Info I just had to do this with two out of my four references. My potential employer found them just fine, and totally understood what I was getting at by formatting the contact information this way.
I have a reference in one of my volunteer jobs that no longer exists too and I am not sure where he is working now. What should I do about that?
Can you try to track him down? Check with the organization or other volunteers to see if they know where he is now. You can also try searching for him on the internet. If you' re unable to locate him, find someone else to use as a reference. | |
