Details to the type of job you are looking for if you do not mind. It reads like a job description...list of jb duties and no accomplishments. (What you did for the company/department/customers/clients/students/etc by fulfilling those duties...)
I guess I was considering those accomplishments or skills demonstrated at those jobs. It's hard to come up with accomplishments like some of those I've seen on sample resumes. ("Increased revenue for the company by such-and-such percent...") I was trying to list transferable skills that I demonstrated through those jobs. As for the job I'm looking for, I don't have a clearly defined idea at this point. I've seen a couple of ads for proofreading positions at advertising agences, so that's what I'm looking at right now. Most of the jobs I've seen involve proofing various types of advertising material, checking for consistency in style, etc. I don't see proofreading as my ultimate goal in life, but I do enjoy writing and editing, so it could be an opportunity to get involved in an advertising agency. post the job description minus the company info...I can show you better with that where I would like to see your resume go. If they are looking for X and your resume does not show X or what you have accomplished while doing X it will get tossed. I want you to not only show you have used X but also what you have accomplished or been involved with others by using X. Ok that sounds complicated I know until you replace the letter X with something they are looking for. Insert proofreading where I have "X" and that is one thing you need to prove better. Does that make sense/help? Advertising...resume does not use that word other than the objective area. Do a control F on your resume with the words of the jobs applying for, skills they are requiring, etc and you will understand you need to add a lot more. Focus the resume for your goals now to prove your capable of doing hte job you are applying for and sell yourself for that position.
It does sound confusing, but I think I know what you mean. Although I have found a couple of ads for these jobs, most of my resumes are going to be sent to companies without any advertised openings. I' ve done some browsing of ads from other areas of the country (not just my own), and the proofreader job descriptions seem to be fairly similar. The following isn' t one in my area, but the skills are essentially the same as ones I' ve seen. The ideal candidate will possess a detail-oriented personality, a strongand demonstrable knowledge of writing and editing standards, and theability to quickly comprehend new ideas and processes. This position requires that you consistently produce an excellent, error-free product while meeting tight deadlines. Duties will include performing quality assurance at every step of the creative process: Correcting factual, grammatical, typographical, or compositional errors Spotting inconsistencies in usage, verb tense, formatting and design Using standard proofreading marks Ensuring adherence to agency and client standards To qualify, you must have previous experience and preferably a degree in English or equivalent study. Previous agency experience is a plus. | |
