Reference check after interviewI went to an interview on Friday, and I really liked the company. On Monday, they started calling my references. Should I keep my hope high to be hired by the company? I just think why they bother calling my references if they don't consider to hire me. Of course, still pending what my references say to them and other background check. Am I right in my thinking? Thanks. If they are calling your references, they have decided that you are the one to hire typically. Congrats on getting to the point of them calling your references so quickly. Interview on Friday and References on Monday means they liked you too. If your story (interview) is aligned with your references, and assuming there is nothing at issue in your background, you should get an offer. However, keep in mind that business needs and budgets can and do change and other factors could prevent an offer. Sometimes it takes some time to put together an offer and there are myriad of reasons for a delay in an offer (ex. HR signoff person is out for a week.) Unfortunately, when you have that scenario occur, you typically don't know whether it was a problem with your references or something else. A good idea is to ask in the interview about the timeframe for following up. If you don't hear something and you follow up, if it is something else they might tell you. If your references are a problem, they won't. If you don't get the job, you can always ask. Good luck Checking references does mean that you are a top contender but there are others who are having there references checked also. Sometimes who we hire is dependant upon how good the reference is. If somebody elses references are better than your, we will go with the other person. Unless, as has happened, there is cause to believe that the reference is not telling us the absolute truth. Keep your fingers and toes crossed but also kep doing the job search thing so that (just in case) you don't lose momentum witht he search. You are correct. I my view, another equal candidate falls into the realm of other factors that could prevent you from getting an offer. In any case, I agree also that you should keep looking until the offer is in hand, compensation and start date agreed upon. | |
