send another email time sensitiveHey, Quick question: Two or Three days ago I applied for a job in a city where I went to highschool. I know the area well, and I have a lot of friends there. When I applied for the job, I was located about 14 hours away. In the past two days I've been thinking and I've decided to move up there to where the job is. Now I haven't even been contacted by the employer. I am highly qualified, I just didn't want the fact that I wasn't a local hire to get in the way. Where I'm living now is not where I want to be. It's the largest 'city' in the area, yet has no theatre, more churches than trees, a bunch of racists, and NO bookstore! So this move isn't just for this job...it's to relocate to an area where I can gain experience in what I want to do. So here's the quesiton. Should I send the company another email stating that I have since moved to the area? If yes, what should it say? Thanks for your help It' s too soon to judge whether or not you will be called by this firm, but, yes, being a non-local candidate could be a strike against you when they review your resume. So, I' d send a follow-up e-mail, something to the effect of: "Dear..... Several days ago I submitted my resume for the position of X. You will note that the address on the resume is in Y (name of city, state). However, I want to advise you that I am currently in the process of moving to Z, which is my hometown and to which I' ve been planning on returning. Therefore, I am now in a situation of not having to relocate and of being available at your convenience for an interview. As stated in my cover letter, I believe I am well qualified for this position, and look forward to hearing from you. Thank you for your consideration, and please contact me if you have any questions or if I can provide any further information." Doesn' t have to be in those words, but do let them know you don' t have the logistics issues of someone who is from out of town. And that this town is where you want to be, aside from the job. Thank you so much! That really helps. I've been trying to relocate for a job, but i usually get calls or emails asking if I'm in the area now. I'm sure they assume it would take me a while to move, but I really have nothing to keep me from making a swift move. Thanks again for your help! | |
