A Haunting FelonyI made a mistake 5 years ago and racked up a felony. I have changed my life since then and haven' t looked back. Because of the mark on my record I' m finding it very frustrating finding a decent paying job. I feel discriminated against. Is there any resources out there for people with background problems or is it just trial and error. Laws regarding having a felony removed from a person's record vary state to state, but generally it is 7 years. You will need to go in front of the Judge and give cause for the removal and the the court can tell you no way or sure. Another problem with this is that your record is not completely wiped clean. A surface check will not show anything after the removal, but anything deeper will show that you did have a felony but not give details. Unfortunately, you will have to rely on the potential employer and their level of understanding. Do a search on these boards, specifically the Interview tips and Vents boards for "felony".
