Keep Your Job Search a Secret .........It' s a nightmare scenario: Unhappy at work, you start looking for anew job, but your current employer finds out -- and your job securityis gone. That' s what happened to one office manager in St. Louis, whosesupervisor found his application on the company' s computer system. "Myboss called me in his office and asked me about a resume I submitted toa rival company," he says. The office manager had to do some quickthinking to explain himself. "It didn' t matter that I gave this companythree years of service -- I was no longer trusted. I didn' t get fired, but I put my job search into high gear, because they no longer saw meas loyal." So how can you search for a new job while keeping your hunt under wraps? I agree you need to keep your job searching as secret as possible. Use your own cell phone too and only on breaks, go to car for privacy. Move the car off company property during lunch time. To protect yourself, yes the employer will eventually find out that your looking. Don't make it easy for them by using company property, which could be hard to fight collecting unemployment. However finding out and terminating anyone on the basis of a resume and looking is without justify cause, you are entitled to unemployment benefits. If your on a contract or temporary assignment, the client may think your his future employee and lies to you about the. permanent work. The proper thing to do is keep your options open by looking at other employment opportunities. The agency and client may think they own you. Remind them their also on trial as I am, if there not offering a permanent position in writing. Your just renting the job. Without a sold, there is no obligation on your part not to take yourself off the job market. Be street smart. | |
