Should I reveal salary to recruiterA recruiter contacted me and asked about my background information (work experience, degree, etc.). And she asked about my current salary information. My questions are: 1.Under normal circumstances, should we disclose salary information to the recruiters? 2. Will they disclose this information to their clients (employers), so when I finally have a chance to talk with the employer and when it comes to salary negotiation, they will know my bottom line?
Thanks. 1. you can, but pump it up. they will always try to get you to take less. It is a fair question to ask what the salary range is of the job the recruiter is pitching. DO NOT ACCEPT AN ANSWER LIKE DEPENDS ON EXPERIENCE, OR OPEN SALARY RANGES. Recruiters work on comission which is based on typically 1/3 of your first years salary (and they don't accept a "open" comission), they always know what they will get paid. you should too. 2. They work for the company, they will always disclose. BUT most HR see recruiters as a necessary evil so they don't put much faith in the information they disclose. hi catyhsin, If you are working with a recruiter, they will be doing the salary negotiation for you and will be trying to get as much as possible, since they will recieve a percentage of your starting salary as their fee. Some companies are impossible to get into without going through a recruiter, so if this is one of those and you really want to be there, you'll have to disclose everything to the recruiter. Definitely bump the salary up (but not too much because they can check that) and then the recruiter will negotiate with the company for the final offer number.
Recruiters receive bonuses if you're hired, and not how much you're hired for. If you give away your salary information you're giving them the OK to lowball you. Divert the answer to a range that you're looking for. | |
