Monster Resume Service

Has anyone ever used Monster's resume service?  Worth investing in?  Please let me know. Thanks.

I went for the full package, which includes cover letter, presentation resume, and scannable resume. Never use the scannable resume. The cover letter was nice, but too long. I redid it myself, but used some of the language. The final resume looked impressive, but I had to totally change it and put back job duty specifics, which is more appropriate for my type of job focus. I also put back some jobs they left off (since I have a long career). In summary, I feel like I wasted my money, but that's not to say they wouldn't help you. I went with a "professional" resume. It 's all summarized, rather then simple bullet points. I bought 2 books on resume writing and used them. People are now very impressed with my resume, when before it was too vague.  Most employers like simple resumes, unless you're a lawyer or something. Yes, it takes time to read the books and write your resume yourself, but it is possible. I will say the final presentation resume gave me some ideas but, again, I had to revert back to my old resume to add stuff back. Just depends on what your profession is, I guess. It's worth it if you just don't have time to do it yourself or you're not good at key words, etc. It gives you something to work with, and you can change it yourself any way you want.
Appreciate the response, which is a great eye opener. The fact that you are the only one that responded back says alot as well. Thanks. Guess their resume service isn't that popular.

I have never used it, but by your experience I may not use it. I can't believe no one replied. I also need help with my resume. I am an x-ray tech in Fort Lauderdale area, and I have applied to 20 places with no reponse. If you can help me in anyway I'd appreciate it.

Try posting your resume on here, it seems that other people are getting resume tips from others.

I am no expert but you want to highlight your strengths on the resume, not just what you do. Add results, if any, more detailed objective. Sell yourself. Try putting your education last. Post your resume in other areas too, like Dice and Careerbuilder. Search for sites on the web that specialize in your field. Post there as well.

Above all, never give up in your job search, dont get discouraged.

Okay, I tweeked it a bit.  I took out the objective as that is an old style resume and isn't used anymore.  I would add an achievments section.  Were you first in your class, have you written any papers that were published or presented at national meetings?  Put continuing education seminars attended in there if need be.  I also recommend that the dates be the first thing on the left where I moved them and that they are bold so that your time frame stands out.  This is how my resume is set up and I never hesitate to get bites.     Feel free to use all or none of it!  smile

OK, call me a Devil's Advocate, but couldn't it be that you only got one response to this post because those who used the Monster Resume Service ended up with such great resumes that they found jobs and no longer hang out on this site? Just a thought. I really am wondering the same as you though.

This thread bypassed me for some reason. I usually stick my two cents in everything from the Career  Change, Job Search and Interview Tips boards. Sometimes if they are the same old question that has already been asked in fifteen different ways, I won't respond because I tend to get biotchy with having to repeat myself.

Anyway, I never used the Monster Resume Service. I never felt the need to spend the money for a service that I will not use. So, I just stuck with the basic Monster Service which included posting my main cover letter plus 4 others specially designed by myself for the different positions I was interested in and entering my information into the resume profile section.

Out of the many jobs I applied for through Monster and other Internet sites, I did receive about 25% interviews, but nothing actually came of any of them. Oh, wait, that is an untruth, I did receive one job offer from Craigslist however, it eventually sizzled into my quitting because of the misrepresentation of the job description.

I would peruse the job listings and apply through Monster, but the job I actually found, I found on my own. It did not come from Monster but from an advertisement I found in the local Sunday newspaper classified section.

appreciate the input. Thanks.
