Online Job Search Tip
I don't know if anyone else has mentioned this here (I'm sure its' been mentioned before), but in case it hasn't been mention it may be helpful to someone in their online job search. I notice that several different employment agencies tend to post & recruit the same job & obviously don't mention the name of the hiring company. What they do usually do sometimes is post is the city, state, & zip code of the hiring company in their ad. They also mention the type of company it is. So use that information in a search engine like Yahoo or Google to see if the name or website of the actual hiring company comes up. Then if you do find the hiring company & their web site that way, you can contact them directly & send your resume to them. Or send them your resume & do a follow up call. If the hiring company is in an industry where you have worked & you know people in that industry who have dealt with the hiring company, then you can network with them to see what they know about the hiring company. This at least will give you some inside information about the company that you can't get from the Internet/web. The more you know about them, the better off you are. Hope this helps someone else in their job search. blankscreenname*, I get the gist of what you are saying, and agree with you on most of it. I have also become very adept at trying to gleen out the company information you mentioned, so I can indeed do my searching about the company before I apply. That's one of my biggest job seeker pet peeves: companies and agencies trying to keep everything anonymous. I can understand the agencies not wanting to give out their client info, as just for the very reason that you stated: all the candidates would be contacting the client companies on their own. However, in most of the cases I have come upon, the reason the clients have given their jobs to agencies in the first place is that they don't want to be bothered with the resumes, phone calls, screening, interviewing, and such. Thus, your chances really are reduced in getting anywhere if you contact the companies directly. But, you can always try. I have, on occasion.
And I agree with you too Maas52*. Some times you can only apply through an employment agency. You have no choice because you don't have enough information to go on in the ad & like you said the hiring company doesn't want to do deal with recruiting, so they hire it out to someone else. Even if you do go directly to the company they may direct to you an employment agency because the job may only start out as a temp job. However, in most cases it's always better to deal directly with the hiring company if possible, so they know you are actually interested as opposed to going through the motions with employment agencies. Worst comes to comes to worst...deal with both the employment agency & the hiring company. It's just another recommendation while searching online. If you can go direct, go direct. Otherwise, deal with the agencies/recruiters. | |
