Older employeeI was recently laid off. I am 58 years old. I have had 21 years exp in office Management and HR for one company. When that company downsized, I took a job after 6 months of looking with a young energetic company. I was the oldest employee. I took the job but was never really happy. I had applied for a job as an HR Manager and also applied to the same company as an office manager. They combined the two jobs and in the end added IT responsibilities. We parted in October after a year and a half..The company was going in a different direction and decided to outsource a lot.
My question is how do I compete with the younger applicants? How do I sell my years of experience? Try this article: http://finance.yahoo.com/career-work/article/103311/In-Hunt-for-High-Pay-Be-Specific
i'm 56 and have been job hunting since i was laid off in may, the company i worked for went out of business due to no business. my resume is well received, i get some calls, schedule interviews and that's it. the see my age, make some general small talk about the company and show me out with "we're still interviewing and will get back to you". end of story. i, too, was an office manager, i have tried for that, customer service, scheduler, etc, nothing. i don't know what will happen to us all. i continue to look, patty | |
