Whats going on

I have been unemployed since July.  I have applied to well over 100 open positions and have recieved 3 calls, resulting in 2 interviews. Is it me? Is it my reume? Am I over qualified for the positions I seek? WHAT IS GOING ON?  I have visited Appleone, Office Team and many other agencies, but to no prevail.  Someone help me please, this is just ridiculous!!!angry Does anyone feel the same?
Yes, I would have to say most of the people on these boards can relate. Temp agencies are scams. Have you had your resume' checked over by an expert, or by Monster? I've been out of work for a year and a half, and I'm having the same results applying directly to employers. So I feel your pain.

I've heard the statistic that on average a job seeker will have between 20 and 30 meetings with hiring managers before he or she gets a job.  Some people take less time, and others take more.  So, you need to work on job search tools that can help you get more meetings.  Here are a few things to think about:

Even with Internet job searches, most people still get their jobs through networking.  Talk to everyone, especially those in your target field.  Don't ask for a job, instead ask what their biggest needs are, what their challenges are, where they could use help.  Ask them who else they think you should talk to.  Use job search software to help you follow up with a thank-you note and interesting information after the meeting.

Depending on your industry, getting 3 calls from 100 resumes may be a low number.  Think about re-working your resume to make it more effective.  If you are not already doing it now, research the companies who place the open position ads and customize the resume and cover letter for each.  The best resumes address the specific issues facing each company.

Talk to staffing agencies, search firms, etc.  While you need to find a reputable firm, having several of them working to help you increases the reach of your search.

Target a few companies, do some networking to identify the managers who could hire you.  Try to find out what their needs are, and send a proposal letter detailing how you could help.  It might get you an interview, maybe short-term employment, or maybe a job.

After an interview, especially if you did not get a call-back, do call the person who interviewed you.  Find out what you did well and what you should change.  This feedback is critical to help you improve.

Good luck.  It is tough to remain condifent in the face of rejection, but you have to keep pushing.

Portion of post does not conform to Monster TOU

Thanks Steve.  I have tried some of the tips you have suggested, with no prevail.  I have rewritten my resume 3 times in the last two months.  I actually go as far as including all of the key words in the job description of the job posting into my resume.  As far as the cover letter I have always customized it for each job that I apply to.  I have given my resume to friends and colleagues to review it and have gotten praises for how professional and functional it is.  If I email you a copy of my resume and cover letter would you mind critiquing it for me? I'll try to keep up my positive search for a job but it hurts when you have experience, drive and ambition and you can't even get a job interview with the most remedial of jobs.angry

Post your cover letter on the cover letter tips section and your resume on the resume tips section. Delete any identifying information. You will receive quality critique and constructive critisicm ans suggestions from hiring managers.

Have you gone to your local unemployment office or career center to gain insights from the professionals located there?

NOTE: PERSONAL FEEDBACK........For your personal security and safety, don't send your information to a stranger's personal email or website. We may all be strangers on these boards, but at least it is going to remain that way. Your personal information (telephone number, email address, home address, etc) will never be included in your posts.

You would have to be an idiot to post such items with your real address and contact info.shocked I want a job, not  stolen identity or a stalker.  As far as going to my local unemployment center...I'm there so much they know me and I know all of the codes to the copier.
hello pink,
i am going thru the exact same thing, was laid off in may, the company folded due to real estate flat lining here in florida. i have applied for well over 1000 jobs, had about 15 interviews, nothing. i am 56 years old, i am not bilingual nor do i have any college degrees. all the job posts now say, associates degree, bilingual (now i am seeing they want Chinese and portuguese bilingual? some even french). my unemployment claim is almost exhausted. we live in a fema designated flood zone, no where near the water but 2 full blocks from a tiny creek that would never reach here to flood. our mortgage was 863$ in 2002 when we bought the house, it is now over 1600$ due to the insurances. my hubby works but his income is nowhere near enough to cover the bills. though the unemployment did not cover all the bills, i was very grateful, it helped to bridge the gap. if i don't get a job soon, we will be forced to let the house go into foreclosure, we have had it for sale since may @ 70,000$ under appraisal, no takers. there are 8 other houses on my block for sale and i can hit 4 abandoned homes with a stone from my back yard. i have registered with every agency in the area, applied at walmart, k mart, home depot, etc. nothing!
my resume is nicely received, i get calls and even interviews, then nothing. it has to be my age, what else can i do? i'm getting so frustrated and depressed. any suggestions will be taken and greatly appreciated.

Yep, indeedy, you would have to be a few bricks short of a load to post your vitals, but you would be amazed at how many people do it.
Patty atleast you get unemployment...I trully understand what you are going through I just moved from Miami, where I definately am aware of jobs requesting that you are bi-lingual.  It sucks. I wish I had a solution for you, I would definately share it with you.   I wish the best luck!
