reject letter

I was laid off  from my job after 11 years in August. I took two months off to be with my kids and just started job searching at the beginning of October. I just recently had an interview that I thought I did very well and left feeling confident and strong. To my surprise, I received a reject letter!  Now I'm questioning myself! Any helpful words?

It is depressing and frightening to receive a rejection letter, but it probably wasn't anything you did or said or should have done or should have said but didn't. There was another person who was more qualified, would accept less money, had references that responded quicker, had references that made the other person out to be a saint with no flaws, dressed in green which happened to be the interviewers favorite color or a myriad of other stupid reasons.

Just chalk that one off as lost and go forward. Remember to never stake your entire future on the interview you happen to have. Keep looking before, during and after the interview process.

DDapper,

I lost a 13 year position four and a half years ago due to downsizing, so I feel your pain. It's like someone took the wind out of you.

I don't want to appear flippant, but at least you received a rejection notification  That has only happened to me after about 1/4 of the interviews I have been on (and I'm talking several dozen interviews) in the past almost two years).  If you read postings from others on these boards, you will find that no response at all is quite the norm.  That's the part that really sucks.

All I can say is just keep on pushing, as hard as it may seem.  You just never know when that job will materialize.

Good luck!!!

Please do not think that it's you, it's not you, but it's the job market currently. Please keep your confidence up and do not get discouraged about how long it takes to get another job, because after eight months of diligently searching for another job, I just finally landed a part-time job in a local restaurant. I still choose to believe that I will land a full-time job in the field that I was recently employed in, but you must keep your head and be optimistic, never depressed.
