Fake Monster email installed spyware!

Did any of you receive a fake Monster email asking you to download Monster's new job seeker tool onto your computer?  If so, DON'T DOWNLOAD THAT ONTO YOUR COMPUTER!!!!!!!!!!!! It looked so authentic, I slipped and downloaded it and then got suspicious about it.  I searched everywhere on Monster's website and did not see a new job seeker tool advertised anywhere and then went back and deleted that file.  I did a scan on my computer and it turned out to be a trojan horse threat which was a maximum security threat and was told that it allows someone to have unrestricted control/access to your computer.  It was the strangest thing I ever tried to quarantine and remove but I did it.  If you have gotten this strange email make sure you don't download it.  I forgot to send it to monster and instead deleted it from my computer because I couldn't wait to get rid of it.  If any of you discover that you have this strange email, don't forget to let monster know what is circulating around, and always protect yourselves.  Just thought you ought to know.

A few months ago some less than fully occupied individuals hacked into Monster and stole many email addresses and resume's along with owners names and street addresses. There have been many security alerts posted on every Monster category.

The first clue that this is a fake email is that Monster has posted that they will never ask you for money as a requirement to use the site nor will they require a special download to access it. You will not be asked for your SSN or the name of your bank.

If you look within that email, you will find many other warning signs, subtle tho they may be. If you still have that email, send it to Monster so that they can have one more piece in solving the puzzle of just how many people are using our email address for crap.

I sent your message to Monster's Fraud Task Force. Here is that team's response:

------------------------------

Thankyou for bringing this phishing email to our attention. This is a fraudulentemail, purporting to be from Monster.

  • This email is not from Monster. It contains "spoofed" domain information designed to mimic a Monster address.

  • There is no Monster “Job Seeker Tool” available through email. Please do NOT click on the link. If you have clicked on the link contained within this phishing email, we highly recommend that you run an anti-virus application to remove anything that may have been installed on your computer and contact a Monster Account Representative to have your account password changed.

  • We are aggressively taking action to shut down fraudulent Web sites referenced by the email. So that we may investigate and take action, please forward the email with full “header” information to siteabuse@monster.com. Instructions on obtaining header information can be found at: http://www.spamcop.net/fom-serve/cache/19.html.

  • Remember, Monster will NEVER send an email asking you to confirm your username and password, nor will Monster ask you to download any software, "tool" or "access agreement" in order to use your Monster account. If you receive an email that contains such a link, you can validate the URL by going directly to the Monster Web site, rather than relying on the link provided in an email, as the link may be forged.

  • Further information on email fraud, including how to spot phishing and spoofing, is available on Monster’s site via the Security Alert on the home page.

We takethe experience of our customers very seriously and we value and welcome any comments orquestions you may have regarding this issue or the security of your Monsteraccount.

Thanks so much for doing that.  I really do appreciate it.  I myself will take heed to that response and I hope it helps others as well.
