Company RestructuringHello to All,
I thought I was set until retirement when I got a position with a health insurance company 8 months ago. Now the employees are being told we're either closing our doors, obtaining investors or merging with another HMO. No one knows if their job is safe. Most of the long term employees had previously left consisting of 3 Upper Level Managers 2 long term employees. I just bought a new home and will have a mortgage and need a steady income. Since I only started in February I would appreciate any suggestions on how to handle this on a resume. Thank you. You are not unemployed yet. Your resume can still reflect that you are still employed employed by listing yourdates of employment as "2/2007-present" or by not listing any dates at all. Just the names, addresses and primary duties. Your cover letter should not state anything about why you are leaving either. It should, instead, focus on the job and the company and highlight some of your best abilities. It is the interview in which you should be mentioning the reason for possible unemployment or why you are considering leaving. At that time, you can state truthfully that your company will be restructuring and it is an almost certainty that you will be downsized. You felt it best to pursue other avenues and secure a position so that when this happens, you will not be caught unprepared. In the meantime, concentrate on the subtle and not so subtle signs of this possible restructure/merger/door closing. Keep asking the powers that be at least once to twice a week about the status. | |
