Unemployment Insurance

I have a quick question....I was given a notice by my local department of labor stating that I am eligible to be paid uneployment, however when I tried to call in and file a claim, the interactive phone service said my social security number/PIN was suspended.  Why would that happen?  Anyone have any ideas?

I have no idea, but you should just go down in person and find out. Bring the paperwork that states you are eligible plus your social security card and identification. Usually a driver's license. Because of my paranoid-ness, I even have a certified copy of my birth certificate which I keep with me when I need to go someplace in which I will have to prove who I am.

Look on your letter and see if there is a phone number to the eligibility worker who sent your the letter. Also look up your local office in the phone book, your state's unemployment website or on yellowpages.com to find a number and ask for the person who sent the letter and set an appointment.

The phone system may be an interactive device, but can only work correctly if the computers are updated. Your SSN/PIN may have been suspended until eligibility was established and the computer system not updated.

i don't know what state you are in, in florida, i live on the gulf coast & the office is in ft. lauderdale, east coast.  i would try to call the 800 till you get a human & explain the situation, it's very hard to get thru here on mondays and tuesdays but keep trying till you do, they should have access to your information.
good luck!

Thanks everyone.  It's all taken care of now.  It was only a glitch in the system.  They straightened it out and reset my PIN and now I'm good to go.  Thanks, though.
