Not sure what part time job to lk 4I'm currently a probation officer and I'm looking for additional part-time work. But I'm not sure what direction to go in. Here is my info: -organized; multi-task; computer literate; knowledge of Probation; team player; excellent verbal skills; excellent judgement skills; ability to lead others; educated; Any ideas? As far as my experience with people who work during full time during the day and want a part time job to supplement their income, they generally work retail. (Cashier, stocking, floor sales in department stores). I would think, though, that you would not want to put yourself in the position of having to deal with your clients in that situation. (I know I wouldn't, but that is just me) With your computer knowledge, you might be a good fit in a call center where people would contact you because they can't figure out how to do whatever with their computer. I wonder, also, if you can lead night courses revolving around computers. This would also be a good thing for your clients as it would give them a birds eye view of your leadership skills and knowledge should you be able to convince them to take the class. I am presuming that you work for the county or state probation office which probably means that if you brought the idea of night classes for those on probation to the board they would either have you lead but not pay you (part of job description as an explanation) or tell you that they cannot do this as their is not money in the budget. So, if you choose this as a possibility, you may try a recreation center.
I' d like to think I have a lot of experience to offer and a lot of skills that would be applicable in various areas. However, the problem is that I really don' t want to make $7.50-$9.50 an hour doing a job that I could do with my eyes closed. I' m wondering if it' s possible to have a weakend part-time job and make some decent money? I have arresting powers but I don' t really want to be a security guard. I did think of retail and wherehouse work.....so maybe I shouldn' t be picky? Though I' m trying to shoot higher for myself and not settle for work that I' m over qualified for. Any other thoughs anyone?
I' m not sure if any banks still do this but back when I was a teller (lo long 20 years ago) we had a cadre of "Police Tellers". Police tellers are not security guards. They work as a teller on the line, but are there in case of a robbery and got paid a lot more than us lowly tellers did. Now that so many banks are open on weekends, there may be a fit there. Also look at "Event Security", Campus Police and some Courier jobs. And ask around to your police buddies. In my experience all firefighters and many police have side jobs. They may have suggestions for you. Most security jobs do not pay very well. You looking at perhaps $9 to $13 per hour. If you have a day job, you best bet would be to work in retailing. Everyone is hiring for retailing. But the pay is low. How about becoming a front desk agent at a hotel? Many hotels need front desk agents from 4pm ot about 10pm or 12 midnight. Or you can work the graveyard. Check with Hyatt, Marriott, Embassy Suites, etc. Hotel is a great idea! Not only do they have 24/7 shifts, but that police background may be a real value added (read pays more) possibility. Either as a bonus like the concept of Police Teller, but perhaps just as their weekend or evening security manager. Not the every day security guard, but the manager of security issues. | |
