Career read that i found very helpfulHey all,
So I just finished reading Cathie Black’s new book, it’s called Basic Black: The Essential Guide for Getting Ahead at Work (and in Life). If you’re just starting out in a career or even if you are just looking for some tips on how to move ahead, I think it is really a helpful read. She’s the President of Hearst Magazines, and I found it really inspiring, and informative to get insight from a woman media mogul who has been so successful in the newspaper and magazine publishing industries, despite mistakes in addition to the triumphs. She gives some great guidelines to achieving personal career success, she goes into detail about the importance of things like drive, ambition, attitude, the importance of first impressions, and how to balance all these important career essentials with a personal life in what she calls having the 360 Life, a more fitting version of ‘having it all’. And ‘case studies’ of real people in the industry and the issues they had to deal with.
She is like the antithesis of a Miranda from Devil Wears Prada, it’s like if Miranda had shared her life lessons and insights to help the girls get ahead instead of acting like a you know what.
Any one else have any good reads in this department? You can get the book here: http://www.amazon.com/Basic-Black-Essential-Guide-Getting/dp/0307351106/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/002-0951944-6370441?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1193243857&sr=1-1 | |
