fixable mistake

I just realized that the cover letter I sent via an online form over the weekend had a typo in it. Yes, I know it shouldn't have been there but it slipped by me. Worse, I work in publishing so I know this is one of those things that gets the resume dumped without even looking at it. What can I do now? Do I send HR a paper packet of resume, cover letter and sampels sans typos? Do I mention the previous typo and apologize profusely? Or do I just accept that the dream job I was applying for isn't going to be mine because I was careless?

A lot of online applications can be edited through the company website. In the employment section, if you had to sign in and create a profile, a record will be kept of any applications you submit. You can access your profile and application for a particular job and edit. When you submit the changes, a notice will go through to the company human resources and they will extract another printout.

If the company is one that does not ask for you to sign in, you may need to contact the company through their company human resource email. Which is generally an address shared by the entire HR department so, this is a tricky manuever, but you can send an email stating that you realized an error in the (whatever it was) section and the correction is (whatever). Whether you actually are able to get your message through to the correct person is based on how knowledgeable the person retrieving the messages from a generic address actually is.
