Should I Stay or Should I Go

I have been a temp/contract worker at the same company since the second week of January of this year, so almost 10 months and I still don't have an offer.  I'm frustrated because I've been told by my supervisor that there is a hiring freeze, that only the CEO of the company is signing off on new hires and that he's only signing off for sales positions.  My supervisor went on to say that he'll bring me on as soon as he can.  That was in August and still no offer or potential for an offer in sight.  In the mean time, the department I'm working in is the training department and one of our functions is new hire training.  We had 25 new hires in June and 20 in September, not all of them were only sales people.  So, I know that other positions have been approved.  In the mean time, I'm being given more and more responsibility, I have been told that we're going to launch a whole new online training program by the end of the year, we're going to do another new hire training program in December (keep in mind I bust my butt during the week and a half training, coming in at 7:20 am, working through lunch and leaving at 5:30-6:00) and lastly, we're going to have the international sales meeting in January where over 300 people domestically and internationally fly in for a week.  I'm carry a heavy work load, a lot of stress while at the same time being grossly underpaid as a temp, without medical benefits and without pay for any holidays, sick time or vacation time.

I feel like I've invested a lot in this company and if they made me an offer I would accept.  But, I'm wondering now when and if that's going to come.  When I ask my supervisor he brushes me off.

I do not think you are paranoid, but very observant. So if corp. moneys so tight (hence freeze), then why fly all these people in?. Technology is an amazing thing and Satelitte confrencing would save thousands....

Just my .02 but I wonder how much smoke being blown up the backside are you willing to take? You're not valued to bring on F/T, it seems that you are "value" as a temp...a no risk or cost.

Send that resume out and start looking, just don't start looking on a company cpu. Don't quit until you've got an signed offer from another.....The offer may never come at all sadly, so keep looking after work, but don't quit. But you deserve better..hang in there....

i would keep working and start looking....for another job. This seems to be common with the employment agencies. They promise things that do not come to pass or the company promises to hire you then never gets around to it. I've had this happen twice. I am on my third job in 6 months (NOT through a temp agency this time) . I am exhausted and burned out from learning a new job and then not being hired by the companies I had busted my fanny for. I worked for a multi million dollar oil and gas company that frequently did this to their temp employees. Its unethical. But unfortunately common.
Keep looking.  I am sorry to hear this is happening to you.  If they were interested, they should have hired you on by now.

You might want to check the law on "co-employment".  I am not sure if it's a federal law and is still in effect, but basically it provides that employers have to hire a temp worker after 18 months in the same position.  The rationale is that clearly there's a need for that worker if they've been in position for 18 months, and the company would be guilty of unfair labor practice by this "exploitation".

I am not an attorney but in a job I had in the late 90's we used a LOT of temp labor and had to be concerned about this.  In fact I recall that Microsoft lost a lawsuit over this very thing.

It works both ways - if the law is still in place and the company knows it, you can expect they'll either offer you the job, change it,or let you go.  You may want to do a little research....
