Staffing Firms that Cheat!Do you think it is poor business practice for staffing firms to "bait and switch"? I cannot tell you how many times I have gone on a "prospective" interview for a certain position that is available and the job all of a sudden becomes "we' ve already filled this position, but we will let you know when something becomes available.". I check myself over for the interview... I' m dressed professionally, I am showered and breath is minty fresh... I remember rolling on my Secret brand deodorant....my hair is well kempt... what happened? Wonderful! So I wasted my time, money, and much needed GAS (mind you they don' t reimburse for PARKING expenses either)! Should staffing firms who use "dummy" positions as a way to meet their candidate quota be reprimanded in some way by the BBB? I feel cheated because whenever this happens, I never end up hearing from them again. Seriously, you might as well sell a product to someone and take their money, then not give it to them. It' s like a bad ebay experience or something to that effect There are some professional agencies or staffing firms that do an excellent job. Clients sometimes treat you better than most employees elsewhere. The problem are these recruiters that cause unneeded expense or time. People don't take the time to check with the BBB. The best place is use the agency name, like Adecco or Manpower and city. Complain on the Contract and Temporary Forum on Monster. Also by word of month to every contract and temporary worker you know of. Adecco Technical services are terrible in Cleveland and Dayton, Ohio, were unprofessional and cost me money. Advantage Technical Services in Solon, OH has excellent service. Even wrote a thank you letter in the end. We need to police this industry, email and forums may be the source. I have threatened to send the recruiter a bill for gas and time, but bad mouthing when its true will do more damage. Remember we are also their client and reference!!! Okay, staffing firms, temp agencies and the like. I won't go into my rant as I don't have the luxury of that much time (or space on this posting). But, I will say to anyone who listens that, while searching for jobs, I have come across this situation. I would apply to the ad, go to the agency, take the tests, meet with the recruiter and then be told that they did not have any positions at that time but will keep my name in the forefront for any jobss that do come in. One day, I decided to become b!tchy and asked why they would place an advertisement stating that they "needed 5 people to fill jobs with immediate availability" and then leave the advertisement in place for 4 days. The response was "we need to sign up people who can work immediately and then we have those people when we get jobs". Okay, I never went back to, or ever looked at again, agencies. So all of these jobs I have applied from AppleOne are bogus? I received an email from a guy that works there asking me more questions which can be easily answered from looking at my resume, and to meet with him. Now I have heard that people can easily find temp jobs from these agencies but should I be wasting my time looking for permanent work there? yeah, I never understood why they ask you about your job history, when they have your resume right in front of their face. What ever happened to the days where you were called to schedule a date and time, you come in, they discuss the position, you fill out the paperwork and you start your job the following Monday? It' s overkill these days it seems... I agree I went through this two years ago right before my son was born and it was not this difficult. I am not even receiving letters to let me know they have my resume let alone for an interview. At interviews they are just over the top...I think companies are tired of turnover and unfortunately my generation is responsible for it. We are the ones who cannot make up our minds and change jobs frequently until we hit about thirty then we want something stable. I hate to say it but Temp agencies have become less and less productive. Right out of high school I started building my experience with the temp agencies and back then they would call you in, test you, interview you and then start sending you out on assignments based on your skill level. These days most of them are a complete waste of time. I can't tell you how many times I got calls from Appleone asking me to come in and repeatedly ask me the same questions looking for answers that is right on my resume only to tell me that they have no available positions. COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME. I have had the most success with Office Team. They will keep you working until a permanent position comes up. The majority of Agencies are practicing the bait and switch these days and it is frustrating. Today I would suggest investing a little bit of money and get your resume professionally written with some cover letters and research recruiters that deal with direct placement only. Even Monster and Careerbuilders want you to invest in getting your resume shot to the top of the pile. So I guess it'll take some money to make money. I was having a long and tough day interview after interview and I busted my butt to get in to meet with some gal that had "great jobs open" even though I was exhausted and had drivien 75 miles all over already that day - only to walk in and have the little receptionist (really trashy girl and really trashy office too) - when I said oh I didnt realize you were a temp service and she said OH NO we are a professional recruiter and I laughed and said uh do you have only direct hire or do you also place people on temp assignments ? She didnt bother answering and I said ok, then you are a TEMP SERVICE !! Then I got in to see the gal that had called me like 5 times and begged me to make time to come and see her and she said so do you have any accounting experience ? I said uh yeah - look at my resume - all 25 years of my career is high level accounting - needless to say I walked out | |
