Frustrated with psychology!!!

I am at my wits end with job searching!! I have a bachelor's degree in psychology and all I want to do is work on research in a lab or office setting. I don't really have a speciality although I really enjoyed social psych research. But I am open for anything! My education and resume are tailored for research. However employers look at my resume and see 7 years retail experience and that is what I get calls for! I DONT WANT TO WORK RETAIL ANYMORE!!

Anyone else having this much trouble getting started in a psych career or have any tips for job searching?????

I know EXACTLY what you are talking about. After 6+ years working as retail manager I had had enough. So I quit. And they the calls from recruiters came..but ALL from retail stores. I worked for the biggest electronics store in the world so I wanted to say to all the people calling..if I wanted to work in retail i'd go back and work at my old company not yours. Anyway...after 4 months to the day I quit of searching and going on tons of interviews and nothing working out..I finally got a job. Yes its a pay cut...and yes its something totally different. But its not retail. Retail is always tricky in your backround...I found that I was overqualified for some jobs and under qualified for some as well. Along with a degree in Buiness Administration, I also have a Bookkeeping certificate.

My advice?

Keeping going...for the 9 people that dont hire you that 10th person does. There is something out there for you.
