What am I doing wrongRight now, I am a substitue teacher. I am trying to become a paraprofessional or something similar. Although I've gone on many interviews, I still haven't gotten a job offer. I don't know what I am doing wrong......my resume is current and full of good points, I do my research, I send thank-you notes, I ask good questions.....or at least what I think are good questions. Why haven't I gotten a job offer?
I do have some applications out, but I am not holding out much hope for them. It seems like I am doomed to be a subsitute teacher for my career. I don't want to do that for the next fifty years. What do you suggest? Any suggestions will be welcomed. I also have an interview later in the week. What industry are you concentrating on? Are you still looking for something within the educational field? If you are switching industries, then that is where the problem may be. A lot of companies are hesitant to hire someone as a paraprofessional if they don't have experience in that particular industry. For example: A legal office may not want to hire you as Paralegal if you have not worked within a legal environment. A dental office may not want to bring you in as a Treatment Coordinator if you haven't had some experience working with dental procedures. (a Treatment Coordinator also has a bit of sales attached to the job since you have to "sell" a course of treatment which may be more expensive than others. And are probably better). If you are going to stick with the educational field, what are you trying for? An administrative district office job? Such as a regional school coordinator or assistant to the regional school coordinator? I seem to remember that you brought this subject up before but I cannot remember why you said you did not want to be a substitute teacher? How about a full full-fledged teacher? I am focusing on education jobs. I've deviated a little bit, since I also applied to an agency that provides educational/transitional services for people with disabilities. My experience includes plenty of relevant points......such as having subsitute paraprofessional assignments, to name one thing. The reason I haven't tried to be a regular teacher is that I don't have my certificate, although my degree is in education. I don't want to be a subtitute teacher because of the instability, low pay and lack of benefits. Besides, I think being a paraprofessional is a better match for me. One reason is that I am much more comfortable with one-on-one and small groups. | |
