How do I answer this question

I am seeking permanent part-time, but I am constantly getting asked why.  Does it really matter why?  I have been telling potential employers it works best for my husband and myself because of the type of job he has.   But, I am really puzzled as to what difference it even makes, or if there is a better answer?

Thanks

It may matter because the company is looking for someone who is open to moving into a full time position or wants to determine if a person would give their all to a part time position or only wants it because they are bored at home.

Another answer could be:

"At this time, a part time position would be the best way to balance my commitments to my family, working to help support my household and realizing my need for self fullfillment through employment."

Yes, although it does seem nosy to you, it does matter to the employer.  They want to know if you're in this for the long haul, if you're going to whining about not being full time in a month, if you're going to blow them off because it is your dance troupe day, whatever.

Thanks Tess,  that makes sense.  It is amazing that there are people who would be that irresponsible that employers need to worry about that!

Thanks, I will use something like this!
