Looking for CA, getting calls from PA,OH
Hello, Any help would be great on this. I have my resume up her on monster, the title of it is C#, ASP.NET, C++, JAVA Developer Resume San Diego Area... I also have my targeted location as San Diego California as well. Yet I am still getting tons of emails and calls from people in my home town area, which is what I have listed as my address in my resume and information. Any tips on what I can do to get this to stop happening, and get more calls from San Diego? There has to be a reason that I have not recieved a call from that area, yet I am constantly recieving calls from the area I live in. Let me know, thanks! Bob Yes, the reason is that's where you live. And you're not getting calls from San Diego because no one in San Diego is willing to fly you across the country for an interview or (God forbid) pay anything towards relocating you to California. That's probably mostly because there is a glut of Techno-guys in California and there's no reason to import one from across the country PLUS, the cost of living difference between PA/OH and CA is astronomical. An employer is going to worry that you're going to get out there, get settled into the job, have major sticker shock and high tail it back home. If you're willing to pay your own relocation and have some other reason for wanting to live there, put that into your cover letter. Tess Tess is correct. S. California is home to a lot of high tech companies and their are way too many techies for a limit pool of jobs. As an example, some of my techie friends recently packed up and moved to Texas and other areas around the nation because they were laid off.
I don't like to hear that... I am planning on moving to San Diego to find a job. I have had many people telling me that it wont be a problem finding a job out there. I am planning on moving there in January, I have money saved and plan on trying it for about two-three months... If I can't find a job in that time I'm going to have to head elsewhere. This is actually the first time I've heard that the Information Technology industry out there doesnt provide enough jobs. Then you really need to do more research. And are you sure you have enough money saved for 3 months in San Diego? You're looking at easily $1000-$1500 a month rent for a studio. You'll need first and last months rent plus deposit to even move in and no one is going to rent to you for only 3 months. You'll have to sign a year long lease. You might find a place that will go for 6 months but that won't be easy. Have a read of the local paper to get a better idea of both jobs and housing costs. http://www.signonsandiego.com/ Tess
You may want to consider checking out the Reston/Herndon area in Virginia. There are tons of tech companies in that area and you may have better luck finding something there. You will also be able to drive there rather than fly which may be more cost-effective for you. The rent is still ridiclously high in this area, so be prepared for that. Good luck in your search. | |
