Need to leave Advice

I need some advice.   I took a job 3 weeks ago that is awful, completely oversold by the head hunter and not what i expected at all.  I have been sitting at my desk for three weeks with nothing to do.  I need to quit or I will go crazy.  What do you think of an immediate resignation?  I am a computer programmer and am pretty sure i can find some work within a month or two, after that my finances are gone.

I figure an immediate resignation will leave me more time to find a new position, interviews...etc.

I am going crazy!!!!

I think that it is a very bad idea to quit a job when you don't have another one.  It could take months to find something else.

I agree. Stick with what you have until you get something else. The job market is really tough right now and it's better to have the most boring job around than none at all!

My first thought is, have you asked for something to do? Or are you waiting around for people to get to you? Maybe right now other people are too busy to train you or turn projects over to you, or maybe the expected workload hasn't hit yet. However, it would be highly unusual in companies these days, who are usually short handed in most areas, to not have something you can do until the workload ramps up.

Second, unless you  have funds to keep you afloat for at least 6 months, not 2, do not leave this job till you have another. A really good job (one you won't want to leave again after a few weeks) often takes a minimum of 6 months to find.

Third, if you don't have much to do where you are now, then you can probably get time off to interview for other positions.

As I see it, you're in a good spot right now to look around for something else. Do NOT put extra pressure on yourself by quitting before you find something else. And give this job a chance--it's not unusual to find yourself with not much to do at a new job in the beginning. If the company has planned properly, they have brought you on board before the s*** hits the fan, which is the right way to do it, not hire in the middle of the whirlwind.
