Need application advice

Hello all!

Could use some advice on completing a job application. It asks for previous employers (managers and their phone numbers) - well, one company is out of business and the other is still in business, but no one I worked with is there anymore.  What should I write for these? Should I write the name of my managers with a note explaining they are no longer there? I can't even remember one of my manager's names (I didn't work there very long and it was YEARS ago!)

Thank you for your help!

I am in the same boat as far as managers' name and phone numbers.  My main problem is that I had various managers at each organization and no numbers to speak of.  One business is out of business also and the other has no managers left from when I worked there.  I usually just put various managers and explain when I am interviewed.  Hope this helps some and good luck.  I am still searching for employment also (since April).

Absolutely fill out the section that asks for the name and phone number of your previous employer. Even if you know they don't work there any longer. There should be a section on the application's employment history that asks for a reason you no longer work there. Explain that the company is no longer in business in that section. Most applications also include a separate section for additional information. you could utilize this for any information concerning the business that is no longer in existence as well.

How many years are you going back that you cannot remember who your manager was? Unless you are using a resume format which makes it neccesary for you to include all jobs that included a particular skill, you really only need to go back 10 years.

For jobs that you have held different responsibilities and each time with a different manager or supervisor, put down the name and number of the last manager you actually had.

Check with your previous places of employment, if possible, because some companies only want their human resource department or individual to be contacted. If that is the case, then it is acceptable to put that name and number down.

If you are going to include former managers or supervisors as personal references, then make sure you bring those names to the interview.
