keep at or changeI'm in a awkward spot. I want to do a lateral shift to continue working (over 10 years) in IT in the .net direction. I am actively looking from junior to mid level developer positions since my experience on the .net side has been light in the last couple of jobs. Usually, I'm not hired because, I don't have enough experience. Each job interview has its own expertise technical questions that I just don't seem to remember all the right answers. Another complication is I've been diagnosed with macular degeneration (left eye...I'm 48). I've been noticing that sometimes when I'm trying to read from the computer screen two lines can merge and scramble together. Now I'm concerned that if my right eye changes will I be able view things well enough to continue in IT. If not, does anybody have any job ideas that programming skills would be transferable?
wow! I really feel for you. I know what you mean, I have been on some tough technical interviews which are completely bogus anyway. When you don't know how to something you just use Google anyway. There is no way you can remember EVERYTHING about .Net development, it is so enormous. I don't have an answer for you but I would like to know what you end up doing, keep me posted. Sometimes I feel like I don't have much longer for the IT field, it gets very hard to keep up.
