Re Entering after 3 1/2 yrs
After taking 3 1/2 years off from my HR Career to be the primary caregiver for an elder parent in southern Florida I have re-located back tothe greater Los Angeles area to re-enter the work force. I have usedMonster as well as several other job boards to post my resume and toreceive emails of recent open positions. I have found it extremely difficult to get any responses from on-lineapplications. I had a recruiter tell me that most employers are veryspecific about recent job related experiences. I have 18 years plusexperience including senior management positions which seems to be adeterrant for being considered for lower level jobs. I have so muchvested in my HR background; I really do not want to start a new career. I apologize for the negative tone of this post but I have become veryfrustrated. I have been searching for 4 months with only oneface-to-face-interview. Would anyone have suggestions, advice, or knowof an agency that specializes in HR temp/contract placements in the LosAngeles area? It seems like everything has changed since I last wasjob searching. HR is actually a tight field and you're almost starting over after such a long gap. Have a look at non-profits. They all need HR staff for their paid staff as well as many also have similar functions that deal with their volunteers. Non-profits may not pay as much as a corporate job but they're more willing to overlook issues of experience, gaps etc. You could get your feet wet again and in a few years shift back into the corporate sector (if you want to). All the best! Tess
Thanks Tess for your quick response. I am definately open to non-profits and watch for them on the job boards. Any ideas for sourcing those types of organizations in the LA area? Try Craig's list. Since places like Monster can be a bit pricey for non-profits, you'll find a lot on Craig's list which is free. Also, look up their individual websites. Many post that way. http://www.redcrossla.org/jobs/ has one for a Volunteer Officer.
Good luck! Tess
Check out the job listings on www.idealist.org They deal exclusively with non-profits. | |
