Apply for 2 jobs at 1 company

There are currently two jobs posted by one company that I am interested in. One job I'm highly qualified for and the other less so, but I've started moving in the direction of the job for which I'm less qualified and would like to continue on that career path. Is there a way I can indicate that I'm interested in both positions without sounding desperate? Perhaps I could apply for one position but indicate my interest for the other in a cover letter? This seems tricky. Any advice would be appreciated.

I have this exact same question/dilemma.  What did you end up doing to apply for both positions?  Did you get any advice from anyone?  There is an organization that has a job that I feel would be a great fit as the next step in my career, but if I am not a good fit for them for that position, I would gladly take the adminstrative assistant position to get my foot in the door and get settled in a new city.

Good luck!

How weird!  I'm in the exact same predicament.  I'm very eager to read other people's advice...

Dear Sasquatchian Barbecue Sauce:

Sunday's Woodsey Newsletter held advertisements for two positions within your company that I feel I would be a wonderful fit for.

The first position was for an Executive Assistant to the Territory Marketing Representative for the North Candian Forest. I have many years in administration and my clerical and customer skills are excellent. I have enclosed my typing and keyboarding certificates as requested by your advertisement. I have worked on and am proficient with many different computer programs including Microsoft Office, Excel and Outlook.

I also noticed that you are seeking an individual to fill the position of Graphic and Rendition Artist for your billboards and posters. I have been interested in this area of business and have been moving forward into this career path. I have experience with Powerpoint and I am familiar with SBS, the graphics software you use in your business.

I look forward to hearing from you soon for an interview. Please feel free to contact me at .............................

Okay, fictional company and positions, but you get my meaning. Make sure you bring the position you are qualified to the forefront and then mention that you are interested in the other position and what experience (limited tho it may be) that you have in that area.

Since you are applying to both positions via your cover letter and resume, make sure that your resume lists the experience for both jobs.

If the two positions are being handled by two different people within the human resource department, then you will probably want to send you information to both of them.
