Employed..but looking

Hello Fellow Job-seekers,

I am currently employed but for various reasons I  feel the need to look for another job.  However, at the same time, I don't want my current employer to know.

What is the best way to handle this?

Thanks!

Send out your resume and cover letter to the employers you are interested in working for and with. The employer rarely, if ever, does anything about contacting previous or current employers until after the interview. And even then, only if they have been impressed by you enough to consider your for hire.

When scheduling the interview, try to schedule two or three on the same day. This way, you only need to take one day off to wait for the plumber to fix the kitchen sink instead of trying to think up two or three reasons in a span of a couple of weeks. Also, your employer will get suspicous if you take toomuch time off.

Tyr to make interviews before or after work or on you lunch time. If they need to know why, tell them honestly that it is because your current employer is not aware of your search for new employment or explain that you would rather not take the time away from your current project at work because of a deadline that is coming closer. The potential employer will appreciate that you need to finish your project and it may even give you some extra points because now the potential empoyer is aware that you will not just rest on your laurels and will work to completion.

If you think that your current employer will be apt to see your resume on a job board, do not lend it out for public view. Actually, don't do that anyway because 98% of the calls you get are from recruiters wasting your time and the other 2% are from con artist type people who want money so that they can send you a list of people you can contact for information on who to pay in order to become a mystery shopper or other home based business.
