Vet Needs Help!!

I have been retired from the navy for seven years. I was recently let go, (five months ago) from a job I really liked. I still do not know why!! When the interview has gone on for a while, the interviewer will ask about my background. I am having a hard time not articulating about my naval career which I am very proud of. I have a disability from my service, but nothing that will hinder what I wish to do. Any ideas from those who have gone through this? I am at wits end and the money is going to run out in three weeks. Seems all the hype for assisting veterans is all chatter to get what they want!!

Try to put your military experience in general terms with emphasis placed on things you can attach numbers to - such as money, time, or people.  From experience employers generally look down on enlisted military experience, so it'll be better if that reference can be avoided.

Good luck.

I have found that last statement to be very true. I have applied to a few places for their management training programs, but due to myself leaving the military as an enlisted, they would not accept my application. I had to have been an "O". Even though I have a college degree it did not matter. I have dumb downed my resume so much it is barely a page long which is good. I am debating on leaving out my education level and my military service to see if that will help. I thank you for the reply.

I've left those entries to reflect "Department of Defense" and went for a general description of that time period.

It's sad, but recruiters/staffing agencies/management feel that all the enlisted folk are good for are goat herding - nothing in the big house.  You could have made E7 within 9 years, but on the outside that equates to "entry level", or "junior", or "associate" all because of that "E" notation on your DD214.
