Ugh..the highs and the lows

[Venting]

Job searching really is like riding in a small boat in open water.  There are highs, where every recruiter calls you twice about the same job and finding a job for you (never just a placement agency).  You get calls and interviews...."We need him immediately!!!  Can we call tonight?!?!?  You look marvelous!!!".

Then the lows...no new openings in my neck of the woods for days.  The same old job descriptions keep getting pushed up on monster and dice only to find back on the agency site that the job was first opened in 01/07.  Huh?  No one will return your calls...and no one will answer your questions.

Mainly just venting here.  I've never understood why the recruiters like to hide when we come looking for them.  "Umm...she's in a meeting and will be until next Thursday.  Call back then.".  No that didn't actually happen, but it feels like it.  The assumption is that the recruiter only has a few (maybe a lot) of people they are juggling, so keeping in touch should be paramount.  Otherwise they OK a job for someone who is no longer interested...or available.

The job I'm working on right now the recruiter asked if she could tell the client I would take the job, without even asking if I was interested or looking at other opportunities.  I'm not desperate, I'll wait before taking the right job..but the attitude of some of the agencies is unbelievable.  I pulled the old warm/cold on a recruiter for a job offer out of state, the client really wanted to interview me.  After the first interview, I knew I didnt' want it.  The recruiter took to long lining up a follow up, answering questions and relaying information on dates and flight schedules.  I finally told him thanks but I'm no longer available.  You'd think I killed his dog. First he says "But you should really think about this!!!"   right...."They already bought plane tickets!!!"  sure...after 3 weeks of fumbling around, now you have the tickets.  I didn't respond and then the guy calls me at work and at home to see what the "deal" was and why I was being "curt".  I laughed, told him to not take it personally and that I had a better offer (just like I said in the email).

I just don't get how they like to shut their "product" off and on like a light bulb, but turnabout is not fair play.

Currently waiting on a "funding" decision to be made on a contract I was told the client wanted me over two weeks ago.  Thanks to advice on this board, I don't wait around on those anymore.  If it happens great, but in the meantime I'll be out interviewing.
