Cant even get an interview!Greetings Fellow Job Seekers: A few months ago my family and I moved from a small city to a large metropolitan area because my husband accepted a new job. I had been employed with the same employer in that city for the whole time we lived there which was 9 years. I have always maintained long term employment and the only reason I have left a job usually because we have moved out of the area. My references from previous employers will always be nothing less than superb. After we settled into the new home, I started looking for jobs. I will generalize and say that I work in the medical field/business and clinical areas but I am not an RN. I have posted my resume on this site and others. The initial response was good. I had calls everyday. I ended up interviewing and accepting a job with a company that was not exactly what done in the past and it was a mistake. I am not going to diss the company here. Just that I made a huge mistake and I quit very soon after I started. By the way, the day after I accepted that job, I received 4 other offers (that were in my field of experience) but due to my ethics, I proceeded to go forward with the first one I accepted and you know how that ended. So, now I am back in the market. I have applied to numerous positions on this site and others that I have been qualified for and more than qualified for and have not received one phone call for an interview. Please note I have not posted that employer on my resume that I briefly worked for because it was just not necessary. I keep getting emails from this recruiter saying the positions are filled or there is nothing out there for me. I have never applied to a staffing agency, I am applying directly to the employers (I think). One office had 3 positions open that I fit every need and yet I never received a call for an interview. So, can anyone tell me what is going on? Am I being blackballed somehow/somewhere? Is there a place on these job sites that someone can post "don't hire her"? I have started to send out resumes blindly to offices that are directly related to my previous employment out of state in hopes that they will call a head of time to find out about me. Please note, I have no fear on what they will say about me. I am so discouraged. The gap between jobs is growing on my resume and I will no longer be able to use the I took time off to move in or I was waiting till school started. Please give me your thoughts.... I have been a manger for the past 18 years. You have not been black balled. You need to list all your past employers, required or not. Also have a list of at least 3 referances of fiends and co workers. If you feel you were passed over , you can call whom ever you applied with and ask why you did not get the position. I have been laid off and It is often my pay or I am over qualified. , This may be the case with you. My resume is complete all the way back to 1981. Long term employment so I am not going on and on. The brief employment I am leaving out I started on a Wednesday, gave my notice two days later and stayed for two more weeks (that was all I could stand) and left. I think putting that on a resume would be a big mistake (like the job was). I just cannot figure out why I am getting passed by for interviews. Do not be discouraged. It is happening to others on this board too. Here is what you do. The medical field is going to explode because they are in dire need of people with medical backgrounds as the Baby Boomer generation is starting to age 60-70 years old. Take your resume to any medical facility (hospitals and medical office buildings) and promote yourself. Do not settle on a handful of employers because the odds of any one of them calling you back is slim especially in a major city! If you do not get any call backs, call the employer and inquire about your resume status. Keep on doing this until you get an interview. Remember the squeaky wheel gets the grease. So just keep a positive attitude and apply everywhere where you think you are a good fit and your interviews will come. | |
